COACHES

Coach Michael Etheredge has been serving youth for over 30 years through ministry and sports—a true gift and calling from God.

After leaving the Army in 1992, Coach Mike moved to Pensacola and founded Golden Elite Track and Field Club with just one athlete—his son, Little Mike Jr. Recognizing his son’s talent and love for running, Coach Mike searched for a positive and constructive track program in the city. When he couldn’t find one, he began training his son himself. As Little Mike started winning, other parents took notice and asked if their children could train as well. From there, Golden Elite was born.

The mission of Golden Elite is to educate the community about the importance of living a physically active, drug-free lifestyle while upholding integrity and self-respect through the sport of track and field. Over the past 20 years, Coach Mike and his team of dedicated volunteer coaches have mentored more than 2,500 youth, many of whom have gone on to earn full-ride scholarships to major universities.

Golden Elite is more than just a track club—it is a family. The program ensures athletes have a positive, inclusive, and safe environment, while also providing essential tools such as tutoring, mentoring, nutritional education, and life skills classes to prepare them to become productive citizens.

2025-26 VOLUNTEER COACHES

Coach McGhee began his track and field career as a standout 400-meter runner from 1973–1977 at Glen Oaks Senior High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He briefly attended Southern University before joining the United States Navy in 1979.

During his 20-year military career, he played on the base, division, and department basketball teams at every duty station he was assigned to. While stationed in Misawa, Japan, he also launched his coaching career by leading the Command’s Women’s Basketball Team, which went on to win the base championship in its second season.

After retiring from the military, Coach McGhee began training one of his sons in the 400 meters. At that point, the father-son duo decided they were ready to move to the next level. In the summer of 2008, he became one of the sprint and field event coaches for the Golden Elite Track Club.

Coach McGhee has since become a motivator, mentor, and life teacher to all those he has had the privilege to coach. For him, coaching youth in track and field is not about himself, but about the development and success of the young athletes he serves.

He now focuses on key areas such as physical performance, mental preparation, recovery, and functional fitness.

With nearly 20 years of experience as a U.S. Marine, Coach Nolan brings a wealth of knowledge, discipline, and advanced techniques to his coaching.
